Condylomas treatment in Spain

In Spain you can perform various treatments for condylomata, a form of genital wart which are among the most common types of sexually transmitted infections.

The treatment consists of eliminating the warts, and thus most of the symptoms. It should be noted that no treatment eliminates the virus from the body. There are several procedures, the most commonly used being cryotherapy, electrocoagulation, imiquimod, podophyllotoxin, and CO2 laser vaporisation.

Sometimes it is necessary to combine CO2 laser with immunotherapy or surgical excision in very large lesions. Recurrence rates are significant, so patients should always be monitored and the best therapeutic option should be assessed in each case, normally combining several of the modalities.

    Treatment characteristics

Condylomas are genital warts caused by the Human Papillomavirus (HPV)

    They are usually asymptomatic but in some cases;

Itching, burning, or pain in the infected area

Small, flesh-colored or gray bumps in the genital area

    Several cauliflower-shaped warts together

In women, they can cause bleeding after sex and abnormal vaginal discharge.

For men, they usually appear on the body and tip of the penis and on the scrotum.

In women, they appear on the vulva and perineum and can reach the cervix.

There are several treatments for this pathology that are usually applied only if the warts are annoying or itchy.

Cryotherapy; by freezing with liquid nitrogen.

Electrotherapy; application of electric current to burn the condylomas.

Drugs to stimulate the immune system and/or antivirals; as a supplement or in combination with any of the other treatments.

Removal surgery; by surgical excision of the lesions under local anaesthesia or sedation.

Laser; reserved for large collections of warts that could not be removed by the other treatments.

You will be able to return to your country at the end of the treatment. Only in the case of surgery or laser it is recommended to stay in Spain for a week to avoid any inconvenience.

You will need to stay in Spain for about 10 days so that the sutures can be removed a week after the procedure.
